Is this safe to operate indoors?
Your lab must be well ventilated and certified, but yes, it is a completely sealed system safe to operate indoors.

Why does Subzero Scientific extract between -40f and -70f?
Heat of any kind evaporates Terpenes and Terpenoids which are responsible for the aroma, flavor, and often medicinal value of the cannabis (as proven by Kenneth Morrow, Founder of Trichome Technologies).
By using a dry ice/alcohol slurry around the material column it allows you to freeze your plant material to around -80ºF. This freezes all the fats, lipids, and waxes of the plant and prevents them from moving past the filter into your final product, giving you a good inline dewax with no added steps or second solvents.
Utilizing the freezing process also makes the butane more dense, allowing for a deeper extraction within the plant material resulting in higher yield.
What kind of yields can I expect?
Yields depend primarily on the quality of your material. That being said, butane extraction is the most efficient way to get the highest yield.
If you extract from the highest quality material possible, you can easily expect returns of 15-25%. However, if you extract mid-grade trim you could expect to see yields between 7-18%.
If you run the same material side-by-side in our system vs a CO2 system, our machines pull roughly double the yield!
Is Co2 Oil cleaner or better than BHO?
Your costs will go up significantly from the C02 process, as well as you’ll have to manage additional safety measures.
Contrary to the misinformation out there, there will not be significant traces of Butane in your final product. Our system (when used with a proper oven, vacuum pump, and purge techniques) makes clean, dewaxed, lab- test ready, oil and shatter.
What kind of seals are used on Subzero Scientific extractor?
We use PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), commonly known as Teflon. PTFE is the right choice for lower or sub-zero temperature extractions. It has a pH resistance of 0-14, meaning it will chemically resist any solvent that has a pH level of 0-14.
Since N-Butane is a neutral chemical and has a pH balance of zero (meaning it does not dissolve in water) there is absolutely no way the common solvents (like Butane and propane) will corrode the seals.
Teflon has given us the ability to operate our extractors at lower temperatures than the leading competitors, while maintaining the same level of purity at a much higher quality.
